Season 3.5 rewards smarter team comps and punishes sloppy play—adapt or fall behind.

The mid-season Marvel Rivals Season 3.5 update is now live as of August 8, bringing with it a wealth of content and adjustments that significantly shift the competitive landscape. From the highly anticipated debut of Blade, to reworked hero balances, stricter punishments for AFK behavior, and a new in-game event—this update is packed.

Players can also dive into a fresh limited-time event, Queen’s Codex, with exclusive cosmetics and XP rewards, and prepare for even bigger changes coming in Season 4 on September 12, 2025.

Blade Joins the Roster – The Daywalker is Here

Blade makes his Marvel Rivals debut as a new Duelist, designed for aggressive, high-damage output. His skillset features a shotgun for ranged attacks, a katana for brutal close-quarters combat, and a defensive block that reduces incoming damage. Most notably, Blade brings anti-healing mechanics to the battlefield—perfect for countering teams built around sustain and heal-focused Strategists.

His Ultimate, Thousand-Fold Slash, deals sweeping damage while weakening healing effects on enemies. His dash ability, Daywalker Dash, offers mobility and a tactical edge against support-heavy compositions. Blade also joins the new Lunar Force team-up, enabling stealth synergy with Cloak & Dagger and Moon Knight.

His addition brings a new lore chapter titled “Cut to the Chase,” alongside fresh story content for Iron Man and Rocket Raccoon.

New Event – Queen’s Codex

Alongside Blade, the Queen’s Codex event adds a new progression track with free and premium rewards. Players can earn XP through matches to unlock themed cosmetics, sprays, and the standout Symbiote costume for The Thing.

Purchasing the Premium Codex grants access to Hela’s “Queen in Black” costume and guarantees that players can complete the reward path at their own pace, without time pressure.

Quality of Life, Moderation, and Matchmaking Enhancements

This patch delivers several quality-of-life improvements and moderation tools aimed at improving the player experience:

  • Custom word filters and expanded emoji support make in-game communication safer and more expressive.

  • The addition of a Faction chat tab enhances coordination and community engagement.

  • A major backend improvement, latency equalization, has been implemented. This system evens out regional ping differences, creating fairer matches between players from distant servers.

More importantly, AFK and disconnect penalties have been overhauled. In Competitive Mode, repeat offenders now face bans scaling from 15 minutes up to 20 hours, depending on the severity and frequency of their actions. Quick Match bans range from a warning to up to 8 hours.

In a welcome change, players who stay in a match after a teammate quits or disconnects now receive compensation—a reduction in lost rank points. Bronze to Gold players lose 12 fewer points, Platinum to Grandmaster lose 8 less, and Celestial to One Above All lose 4.

Matchmaking has also been adjusted to improve fairness:

  • Bronze to Gold players can queue in parties of up to 4.

  • Platinum to Grandmaster are capped at trios.

  • Celestial and above must queue as solo or duo only.

Hero Balance Changes: Buffs and Nerfs

A major part of the 3.5 update involves balancing tweaks across the hero roster:

  • Doctor Strange sees increased dagger capacity and reduced cooldowns, giving him a more active frontline role.

  • Groot and Thor receive buffs that expand their AoE and utility, making tanks more viable in sustained fights.

  • Iron Fist, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Adam Warlock, and Mantis also receive targeted buffs that improve survivability, healing efficiency, and damage output.

  • On the other side, Magneto, Black Panther, Wolverine, and Cloak & Dagger receive nerfs that reduce shield strength, increase cooldowns, or nerf ultimate energy gain.

  • Mantis, in particular, takes a heavy hit. Her Healing Flower output, projectile charges, and energy economy have all been toned down, making her the most significantly nerfed hero of the patch.

New Team-Up Dynamics

The update introduces two new team-up combinations and removes some established ones:

  • Duality Dance (Adam Warlock + Luna Snow) brings a powerful Light & Shadow Karma healing synergy, enabling layered regeneration effects during combat.

  • Vibrant Vitality (Mantis + Groot/Loki) enhances Mantis’s healing capabilities and grants new buff abilities to allies, supporting tankier team compositions.

At the same time, several familiar team-ups—including Atlas Bond (Iron Fist + Luna Snow) and Guardian Revival (Adam Warlock + Mantis/Star-Lord)—have been removed. This reshuffles synergy options and nudges players toward new healing-focused compositions, with Blade’s anti-heal abilities acting as a natural foil.

Meta Impact and Strategic Shift

Blade’s arrival marks a significant shift in the Marvel Rivals meta. His anti-heal tools are a direct counter to Strategist-heavy, healing-centric lineups, potentially limiting the dominance of supports like Mantis or Adam Warlock. With his strong sustain and burst combo potential, Blade thrives in dive comps and brawler skirmishes.

Meanwhile, Vanguards have seen steady buffs across the board. Heroes like Doctor Strange, Groot, and Thor are now more impactful in frontline roles, pushing the meta toward tankier, sustain-based lineups. Duelists and Strategists will need to rethink their approach—burst healing may not be enough in the face of Blade’s passive Lifesteal and debuff-heavy skills.

Looking Ahead – Season 4 and Beyond

While Season 3.5 delivers a meaningful mid-season update, it’s largely in line with the roadmap pacing and doesn’t dramatically overhaul the game. That said, the foundation is being laid for something bigger.

Season 4 of Marvel Rivals is set to launch on September 12, 2025. Players can expect new heroes, modes, events, and potentially even a new map or progression system. With more than a month left in the current season, there’s plenty of time to experiment with builds, master Blade, and adapt to the evolving strategies before the next competitive climb begins.

Final Thoughts

Marvel Rivals Season 3.5 is a well-rounded update that balances content, competitive fairness, and gameplay depth. Blade’s arrival shakes up healing-focused metas, while new team-ups offer exciting composition possibilities. The changes to punishment systems and latency handling show that the developers are committed to improving the quality of online matches for all players. With the full Season 4 update on the horizon, now’s the perfect time to log in, squad up, and dive back into the multiverse chaos.
